"THE UKULELE EXPERIENCE"
For those who think music should be fun, the ukulele (or 'UKE' as it is commonly known) is ideal. To play it you don't have to be particularly musical. You don't even have to learn to read music to enjoy your uke.
But my guess is that you'll want to learn those things as time goes on just as you'll want a more expensive instrument as your interest expands.
However, rest assured, these things don't matter to begin with and the beauty is you can be adequately equipped with a uke, tuning pitch pipes and a plectrum for under £25.
That the uke is easily learnt is a strong point in its favour over, say, the guitar. So, the easier the instrument is to play, the more pleasure therefore will be had by more people so, the quicker you'll want to be playing along with other musicians with other instruments - which is surely the idea.
We want, and have got in the uke, a game that everyone can play, and so nobody will be excluded. If you think you've no talent or 'ear' for music or, even if you've been rejected by your music teacher as... "hopeless"... there's still hope and salvation in the uke.
And, There is no age limit!!
But, I can talk! You won't know until you get one in your hands as I did when I bought one as a Christmas present for a family member. Once you play your first couple of simple chords you will, like me and countless others, be well and truly besotted with it. Also, remember, when you have mastered the uke you will be able to transfer to the guitar or any other kindred fretted instrument quite easily.
But beware! There's an old Hawaiian story about the uke..."casting spells over men who thereafter will never be able to escape away from its music".........
In short, you're guaranteed to get bitten by the uke bug - and I hope you are! - There's no nicer, friendlier, more portable stringed rhythm instrument in the world.
Why not join my Uke class every Saturday afternoon at 2.00pm and see how easy and enjoyable The Ukulele Experience can be?
Classes are at ONE WAY MUSIC in the centre of Wolverhampton. To enrol, speak to the guys in the shop or telephone me on 07733 130162.
And finally, I also teach acoustic 'folk' guitar and electric bass!
